Dream Catcher Abys and Kaaleah
LaTonya “Abys” Wallace, President of the Abu Unity Foundation started her organization after the untimely death of her then fiancé Quincy Abu Jones in 2003. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time & was shot and killed in a Newport News neighborhood. At the time she had a 1 year old daughter and wanted to invest her pain & anger into something positive. In 2006 she presented her vision to Double XXL, Ceo P, and Ms Blendz. and began the Abu Unity Fest. This event is centered around empowered the youth to use their time and energy wisely by investing it into art programs to channel their creativity. She also has the Youth Rip The Runway event that encourages the youth to express themselves as individuals through fashion. So that they know being confident in yourself can help you further your leadership potential. It also gives the youth to a platform to share their talents & passions outside of academics, with keeping in mind that knowledge is power. Abys also supports other community organizations to help them reach their individual missions like Parents Against Bullying and KMK Productions because she believes in the saying it takes a village and leads by example. Asking parents to unite and be present in their children’s lives as positive influence at all times. It’s very important as we are grooming the leaders of our future. Abys has caught her dream and encourages you to catch yours. She is truly a Dream Catcher.
